EVAS members Earl Hartman and Jasline Hartman-Budnik begin using a Celestron 8 telescope with friends Cate Maslan and Budda the Basset Hound.

EVAS members Earl Hartman and Jasline Hartman-Budnik of Edwards, Colorado, begin using a portable Celestron 8 telescope with friends Cate Maslan and Budda the Basset Hound.  Budda’s astronomical interest is only casual, but, for him, that is typical.

Earl Hartman and his daughter, Jasmine Hartman-Budnik, are residents of Edwards, Colorado, and attend meetings of the Eagle Valley Astronomical Society.  At a recent monthly EVAS gathering, they learned about the various telescopes that have been donated for educational use.  On June 28, 2013, they received instruction how to set up and enjoy a Celestron 8 telescope that they will now use at home through the summer.  The tripod-mounted instrument is a compact Schmidt-Cassegrain optical design and is equipped with electric tracking to keep celestial objects centered during viewing.  Saturn is very well placed in our evening sky and will be a popular target.  The use of this telescope was made possible by donor Robert D. Kern of Waukesha, Wisconsin.  Other loaner telescopes remain available to EVAS members through the Society and HUT Observatory.
